2007-2008 OFFICERS & COMMITTEES

Board Structure and Officers

  • Non-stock, not-for-profit corporation--incorporated on 9/19/94.
  • Purpose = provide financial support Rockingham County Public Schools.
  • Mission = The Rockingham Educational Foundation provides a way for the Community to enhance quality education in Rockingham  County Public Schools.
  • Motto = “Building People Through Education”
  • Structure governed by Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.
  • A Board of Directors manages the Foundation.
  • The Board structure is 25 directors, having three year terms.
  • The Foundation has an expectation of commitment from its Directors.
  • Four Corporate Officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) are elected at a regular meeting of the Board on or before May 31 of each year. 

There are five standing committees:

1. Committee on Board Affairs

  • Build and maintain a strong and effective governing Board.
  • Identify, cultivate and nominate new board members
  • Replace Directors as needed
  • Analyze and update Directors’ job descriptions

2. Program Committee

  • Develop programs to accomplish goals of the Foundation
  • Organize and execute the programs
  • E.g., Innovative Idea Grants, Scholarships, etc.

3. Marketing and Public Relations Committee
  • Create program to support and publicize the objectives of the Foundation
  • Prepare an annual public relations plan
  • Produce and publish a calendar of events
  • Utilize appropriate media resources for marketing
  • Create a Foundation website

4. Development Committee

  • Develop a fundraising strategy
  • Organize and execute the annual campaign

5. Finance Committee

  • Maintain strong and effective financial management
  • Budgeting and financial reports
  • Record keeping and reporting
  • Prudent investment strategy for minimum risk/maximum returns
  • File necessary reports to maintain tax exempt status
  • Maintain database for donor appreciation and recognition

6. Events Committee

The full Board generally meets once every quarter in May (Annual Meeting), August, November, and February

Standing committees and subcommittees meet on an “as needed” basis
