![]() Programs Grants The purpose of the Innovative Idea Grants is to provide resources for classroom teachers and students. REFI awards numerous grants each year. In 2005, $50,000 is available for grant awards.
Scholarships Scholarships are given each year to outstanding students. In 2005, there was approximately $35,000 available in scholarships. Teacher Supply Depot Businesses and individuals donate unwanted supplies to the Foundation. These supplies are eventually put to use in the schools. Teacher of the Year Program Awards given to outstanding teachers in each of the 21 schools. Little Red Bookshelf Program New and used children's books are distributed throughout the community.
Books for Beginners The Foundation will provide a free book to each enrolled kindergarten child to emphasize the importance of parents reading to their children. Summer Early Intervention Reading Program Books are purchased for take home in an elementary intervention program. Students coming to a summer story time will be given a book to encourage parental reading with children. Community Story Time The Foundation will financially support a program at Lacey Spring Elementary School to provide books for children in the community and in the four-year-old program. The Foundation will collaborate with WVPT, which will provide a monthly story hour for students and parents during the academic year. Character Counts Program REFI provides financial support for character education programs. This enables schools to provide speakers, banners, and Character Counts Week activities. PULSAR The Foundation will financially support middle school student leadership development by providing funds for after school activities such as PULSAR.
